You can reduce the amount paid over time.
It can help improve your credit score.
Once your debt is paid, you can focus fully on saving and other financial goals.
Unfortunately, you're still obligated to pay a debt even if the original creditor sells it to a collection agency. As long as you legally consented to repay your loan in the first place, it doesn't matter who owns it.
You may be able to pay less than you actually owe, though.
To determine whether the debt collector can disclose the purpose of the call, they must first determine whether they are speaking with the right person. The FDCPA requires this. Our debt collectors ask the consumer to verify the last four digits of the consumer’s social security number (not the full SSN), to ensure they have the right person on the phone.
You can NOT be arrested just because you owe money.
Legally, debt collectors can't even threaten you with arrest.
But they do have other legal recourse, such as suing you for payment.
